Joe Calzaghe's 5 Most Career Defining Victories

Joe Calzaghe retired undefeated in 2008 having amassed 46 career wins, during which he won every version of the super middleweight world championship and the lineal championship at light heavyweight. The Welsh southpaw will this year be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Born in 1972, he began boxing at aged 9. During his amateur career, he won four schoolboy ABA titles and three senior ABA titles, before turning professional in 1993. Trained by his father, Enzo Calzaghe, for the duration of his career, landing his major title when he won the British super middleweight title. He later won the WBO, IBF, WBA, WBC & RING super middleweight world titles, which included a record 21 defences of his WBO strap. He then stepped up to light heavyweight to win the lineal RING belt. He retired with a record of 46-0, with 32 of those wins coming inside the scheduled distance. Only nine other men in history have retired as an undefeated world champion. Other accolades include being named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2007. He was also made an MBE, before being appointed CBE in 2008. These accomplishments leave him as one of the greatest British boxers of all time, and, as the most successful, arguably the greatest super middleweight globally of all time. I will now go through, chronologically, the 5 most career defining victories of his storied career and legacy.
