John Carver STILL Thinks Mike Williamson Got Himself Deliberately Sent Off Vs Leicester
The former United head coach hangs Willo out to dry... AGAIN!
John Carver still thinks Mike Williamson got himself deliberately sent off against Leicester City in May. Newcastle crashed to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the King Power Stadium as their Barclays Premier League status became under an increasing amount of threat. Williamson and Daryl Janmaat were both sent off on a disastrous afternoon for United before the former was publicly hung out to dry by his manager. Carver famously claimed his centre half got himself sent off on purpose as an easy way out of the relegation dog fight The Magpies found themselves in at the time.
I thought hed done that on purpose it looks like he did. The ball was off the pitch he had no need to make the challenge. He will miss two games. Is it an easy way out? I thought he meant it. When the ball went on to that left-hand side my first reaction was dont do it. He did it. Vardy was off the pitch, Willo was off the pitch, the ball was off the pitch. There was no need to do it and Im not accepting that. I told him that to his face. I dont want to go into his reaction. They say time is a healer but this clearly isn't the case for Carver. Speaking on Sky Sports' Goals On Sunday, the 50-year-old said he would have handled the situation differently but still believes a professional footballer at the top level of the English game got himself purposefully dismissed... "The situation with Williamson... I still believe he meant to do what he did & I spoke to him since," said Carver. "I was wrong to come out publicly & have a go at him because we know it's not the done thing." Even though he clearly isn't a Premier League footballer, one thing you can credit Mike Williamson with is his honesty and integrity. The 30-year-old, despite all of his faults, clearly gives 100% every time he is called upon and leaves nothing on the pitch. For Carver to continuously make someone who he knows isn't a popular figure within the fan base a scapegoat for his own shortcomings as United's head coach is scandalous.
