La Liga Round-Up: Matchday 13

La Liga 600 With the season now in full swing, the La Liga table is starting to take shape and the season has already brought many surprises. This trend is sure to continue right up until the end of the season, as the players look to find their form for the World Cup. On Friday night, a second-half hat-trick for Youssef El Arabi was enough to give Granada a 3-1 victory over local rivals Malaga. Substitute Juanmi did pull Malaga level after El Arabi's first goal but it wasn't enough. The victory leaves Granada in 8th place, while Malaga are just a single point above the relegation zone. In Fridays other game, Almeria secured their third win in a row with a 1-0 victory away at Osasuna. Rodri's 18th minute tap-in proved to be the difference in a game where Almeria were inspired by a fantastic display from Goalkeeper Esteban. Osasuna sit second-bottom in the league standings, with Almeria move out of the relegation places. In Saturday's action, Real Madrid smashed 5 past Real Sociedad as the hosts won 5-1, with Christiano Ronaldo scoring his 23rd La Liga hat-trick. Benzema and Khedira were on the score-sheet for Madrid, with Griezmann grabbing the consolation goal for the visitors. Real Madrid sit 6 points behind Barcelona and occupy third place, while Sociedad are 7th. Athletic Bilbao used their substitutes to turn their game against Levante on it's head in their 2-1 victory over Levante. Barral's first-half goal had given the visitors the advantage before Athletic introduced Mikel Rico and Aduriz in the early stages of the second-half, they both found the net later on. The victory means Athletic are just a single point off the Champions League places, while Levante are stuck on 17 points and are level with 3 other teams. Rayo Vallecano ended a run of 3 straight defeats in the league with a 2-0 victory at Celta Vigo. Goals from Viera and Larrivey lifted them out of the relegation places, moving them level on points with the side they defeated. Elsewhere, Getafe an Elche drew 1-1. Sanchez Gil gave the hosts the lead but Boakye equalized in the second-half. Getafe sit in sixth, while occupy 12th spot. Sunday's action saw Real Betis lose 4-2 at home at the hands of league leaders Barcelona. Neymar opened the scoring and Pedro double the Catalans advantage two minutes later. In the second-half, Fabregas grabbed a brace and Molina struck a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the dying moments. However, Barcelona will be worried as Messi limped off in the earlier stages with later reports stating he faces 6-8 weeks out. Betis are stuck to the root of the table, while Barcelona lead the pack and have a 3 point advantage over Athletico Madrid. Athletico Madrid could only muster a draw this weekend at this seasons surprise package Villarreal, in a result that extended Barcelona's lead at the top. An early own-goal from Perez Martinez gifted Athletico the lead but Uche equalised with 11 minutes to spare to grab a point for the Yellow Submarines. Villarreal stay fourth and Athletico maintain their second-place position ahead of local rivals Real Madrid. Valencia and Real Valladolid played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Mestella, with the visitors twice taking the lead before being pegged back. Guerra Rodriguez' opener was cancelled out by Pabon and then in the second-half, Garcia put Valladolid ahead again but Feghouli equalized with 14 minutes remaining. Finally, Espanyol fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Sevilla. Early goals from Fazio and Machin Perez gave the visitors a two-goal advantage which was cut in the 23rd minute by Garcia De La Fuente. In the second period Bacca restored Sevilla's two goal cushion and Espanyol's Sanchez Mata received his second yellow card late on and was given his marching orders. The result meant Sevilla leapfrogged Espanyol in the table, with both occupying mid-table positions.
