Liverpool Transfers: 10 Players They Should Sign
8. Charlie Austin
Why They Should Buy Him:
Queens Park Rangers had a disastrous season; one which barely any of their multitude of veterans escaped with any credit at all. In fact, Austin is probably the only player to come out of it with his reputation enhanced by the experience. He managed to score 18 goals in 36 games for a team that were relegated, which remains an impressive record.
He's a powerful forward and a clinical finisher, and he'd be able to hold the ball up for the host of quick attackers that Liverpool have, allowing the likes of Sterling, Coutinho and Sturridge to tear apart opposing defences. He'd also provide a threat himself, and the support of the creative Liverpool players could help him take his goalscoring tally to the next level.
Why They Shouldn't:
Despite his goalscoring tally, Austin isn't the most consistent player. While he is capable of scoring goals to win games, he can also go anonymous for long periods of play, a trait unnervingly similar to a lot of Liverpool's current attackers. This suggests that he might not be the dependable attacking threat that Liverpool crave up front.
Furthermore, QPR won't be willing to let one of their best players go without a fight, even if they were relegated. This will ramp up Austin's price, making him a more expensive option than he needs to be.
