Liverpool 3-2 Spurs: 5 Reasons Rodgers Side Triumphed

4. Overloading The Left

Philippe Couttinho While Suarez may have made the most telling contributions to Liverpool's win, it was the sterling creative work of Philippe Coutinho and Jose Enrique, both operating on the left side, that proved the most difficult for Tottenham to deal with. Moussa Dembele, who had a frustrating afternoon, started in a right midfield position but frequently drifted inside to get involved with play, leaving space for the marauding left back Enrique to exploit. Meanwhile Kyle Walker, who has never been the most disciplined when it comes to positioning, galloped forward at will leaving space for the Spaniard to work in tandem with Coutinho, who was at the fulcrum of Liverpool's attack in the first half. The two worked together defensively too, often crowding out Walker when he attempted to work his way into the Liverpool box, before launching a clever and speedy counter attack. It was the combination of Enrique and Coutinho that created the opening goal, with the two exchanging passes after a lovely bit of skill from the Brazilian, who's creativity and flair gives Liverpool another wonderful dimension to their attack, before Enrique fed Suarez, who finished in customary, brilliant fashion.
