Liverpool 3-2 Spurs: 5 Reasons Rodgers Side Triumphed

3. Toothless Tottenham

The search for strikers has been a well publicised problem for Spurs over the last few seasons, with an out and out, 20 goals a season, centre forward proving to be a consistent missing link in an otherwise wonderfully assembled side. Sunday's loss to Liverpool was another prevalent demonstration of this weak link, with Jermaine Defoe proving anonymous at best throughout the 90 minutes. It was clear that Lucas, Agger and Carragher had all been instructed to crowd out Bale whenever the ball came to him, to stop him inflicting the kind of damage the Welshman has inflicted on a weekly basis for the last few months. Logically, this would allow his strike partner Defoe to exploit the space Bale had created to bring Liverpool damage from a source they were not focussing on. However, Defoe frequently looked lost on the expansive turf of Anfield, often making runs to no real avail and seeing his attempts at link up play thwarted.
