Liverpool: 5 Players They Must Sign To Catch Man City

3. Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

Like so many of German football's bright young things, it seems only a matter of time before Timo Wener ends up making the move to Budesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Any time a young German shows even a glimmer of promise, FC Bayern swoop in and snaffle up the player in the hopes of turning him into one of the stars who'll drive them to further glory. As such, Liverpool would be advised to pounce on Timo Werner before its too late.

By their design, RB Leipzig are a selling club - paying big bucks for hot prospects in the hope of then selling them on for a profit - and so there's definitely a chance of opening dialogue over the purchase of 23-year-old Werner.

Why would the German international be such a good fit for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, then? Well, his versatility and energy for a start.

Liverpool clearly have a nailed-on starting front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, but the Anfield outfit is a little short when it comes to top level cover for these positions. For Werner, he's just as comfortable playing on the left wing as he is at a classic number 9 or even out on the right.

With a long season ahead for Klopp's Red Men, being able to rotate quality for quality is a must. And that's something that Timo Werner would bring to the squad - even opening up the possibility for Firmino to be utilised as more of an attacking midfielder who links the play together.

50 goals in 85 Bundesliga starts over the last three seasons show that Werner would bring plenty to the table for any club that signs him up.
