4. Playing Style
We should all know by now how Brendan Rodgers likes his team to play. Short, accurate, passing in a possession based game, looking to maximise the number of opportunities his side create will limiting the amount of ball the opposition has. This style not only suits the Liverpool ethos, but it also suits the players Rodgers has at his disposal. Suarez is a tricky, technical forward who loves to float around, Joe Allen is a metronomic passer of the ball, Glenn Johnson and Luis Enrique love to get forward, while Steven Gerrard can offer something a bit more direct if needed. This style means goals, 56 in the league this season, joint second highest in the league and only behind rivals Manchester United. As the old saying goes, goals win games. What is just as important as the type of style is the dedication to it, and in Rodgers Liverpool have a manager who is unmoving in his ideals. He famously said there is no plan B at Liverpool, only a way to make plan A better, and while this may cause the odd bad result when plan A doesnt work, it does at least allow for a continuity of planning throughout the club, from the playing style of junior sides to efficiency in the transfer market as the Reds will only buy players who will fit into the system.
