3. Adaptability
Now Gerrard has never been known for his tactical ability, as he's more a throwback to the olden days, by simply running and forcing himself through, but we've learned something new this year. Brendan Rodgers came in with a clear idea of a passing/possession based team. At this point questions were raised over how Gerrard would function in such a team. Obviously Gerrard will not become the next Xaxi in the short passing game, but improvements have been made. Gerrard is known more for his long range passing then his ticking over the ball in the midfield. He can still be seen pinging a raking 60yd ball across the field, but although still occasionally hitting the odd Hollywood pass, since Rodgers came in he has been able to keep possession tighter in the midfield. With England though, Gerrard plays a bit more direct, so how Gerrard plays now at Liverpool is a testament to his once questioned adaptability. This new found discipline on the ball has expanded the captains game, and will allow him to be more effective.
