Liverpool Transfer News: Aquilani Swapping Anfield For Turkey

Italian misfit set for an opportunity to revive his career at Fenerbahce

Daily Mirror, Liverpool's Italian central-midfielder Alberto Aquilani is attracting the attentions of Turkish giants Fenerbahce, after the want-away player failed to secure a permanent move to Italy. The 27-year-old has spent the last two years out on loan in Serie A, at Juventus and then AC Milan, and had hoped he had done enough to convince an Italian club to end his Liverpool misery, but he will now join up with new boss Brendan Rodgers for pre-season, unless the Fenerbahce deal is pushed through quickly. The Turkish club have considered making the move before, though never shored up their interest with a concrete offer, but the Istanbul club are now firmly back in the market for the player who cost Liverpool £17m back in 2009 from Roma. They need to boost their midfield options after controversial former Newcastle United player Emre Belozoglu moved to Atletico Madrid. At the minute Aquilani's future looks uncertain, and Brendan Rodgers may wish to give the Italian an opportunity to prove himself with a clean slate, but with Fenerbahce likely to meet the £6m or so transfer fee the Anfield side are said to be looking for, this could spell the end of his English adventure. His agent, Franco Zavaglia told TMW:

'At the moment Aquilani is a Liverpool player and will certainly start pre-season training with them, then we'll see what happens. 'The new manager will decide whether to keep him or not. I don't think hes coming back to Italy and he hasn€™t expressed any particular preference, but this time I hope Liverpool can tell us in time if he's not part of their plans so we can find him the right club. 'Recently, apart from a slight ankle sprain, Aquilani has had no major fitness problems. The real problems were when he had ankle surgery at Liverpool.'
Liverpool fans - would you consider a move away for Aquilani a good thing? Or should the player be given another chance to prove himself? Share your thoughts below...
