Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Make Offer For Joel Matip

Klopp looking to shore up his leaky defence.

Good news to Liverpool fans still reeling from the weekend's performance at Norwich and the 4 goals leaked: Jurgen Klopp is apparently actively looking for defensive additions to his squad. According to Sky Sports Germany man Kaveh Solhekol, Liverpool have made contact with Schalke over highly-rated defender Joel Matip who was linked to Newcastle as recently as December in local press. https://twitter.com/SkyKaveh/status/692309573345112069 Matip would certainly be an improvement on the current faltering defence. Liverpool have already shipped 32 goals this season, which is simply not league winning defensive form. In contrast, Arsenal have let in 10 fewer and Spurs 13 less, and with Liverpool's front-line attracting a lot of criticism recently (despite scoring 5 against Norwich), their comparative defensive frailty is a more pressing concern. The transfer fee is unclear, as Sky Sports have refused to be specific, but his contract running out in the summer clearly makes the 6'4 defender a more affordable possibility than he would have been mid-contract. The revelation that he "wants to leave" will also be music to Liverpool fans' ears looking for the highest possible position this season before Klopp gets his first full pre-season under his belt. https://twitter.com/LFCFootyNews/status/692322704976932865 https://twitter.com/IbeCold/status/692322597325950976 Would you be happy with Joel Matip signing?
