Liverpool Transfers: 5 Goalscoring Options Brendan Rodgers Must Consider

3. Sturridge, Daniel

Current team: Chelsea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_lQrvgThW4 The enigma that is Daniel Sturridge. Is he a world beater? Is he a pointless show boater? Is he too arrogant for someone of such little (relative) achievement? I think we all know he's a good player and he's got a great deal of potential but how much of that are we going to see? As an England fan, even if he remains at Chelsea or goes elsewhere I hope he succeeds for their sake because I think he could be really useful if he reaches the levels I think he can - it's all up to him though and these next few years are critical in the career of Daniel Sturridge. Something BR prides himself on is his ability to extract potential from young starlets and Sturridge may well benefit by signing for LFC and BR. Fans of the Premier League and, better still, the fans of Chelsea Football Club know this guy can finish. He was prolific for Bolton Wanderers last year and I think that led everyone to stand back and think, "Ok, this guy can be the real deal." The thing that lets him down is his greediness, he doesn't always see what he should - be it a better positioned team mate or a pass that would benefit the team more than a couple of pointless step overs.

Would He Fit The Role?

This question all depends on whether Daniel Sturridge is still open to the idea of playing out wide because there's no way BR would displace Suarez for someone so inexperienced in comparison - Huntelaar maybe, Bent maybe but not Sturridge. If BR wants Sturridge then in my opinion it's going to be to play out wide in the 4-3-3 system he employs. Question is, will he end up being another Borini, who's disappointed so far, or would he excel playing every week in a team who enjoys the ball? Would he fit? Depends on the player - although if he signs I think he'll know he's playing out wide so he would surely fit well.

What's The Likelihood?

I'm really not sure on this one but there's plenty of gossip to go with this story so maybe the Chinese whispers will come true. He is somewhat of a wildcard but he excelled for the Great British Olympic football team when given the trust to start games regularly - scoring two goals. Something in Liverpool's favour, should they decide to pursue Mr. Sturridge, is Rafael Benitez's current employment status. His favourability toward Liverpool may help with any negotiations over price and he may also help BR by flattering Liverpool as an institution - some thing which may help Sturridge step out of the Stamford Bridge door. Sturridge also falls into FSG's transfer criteria very, very nicely - he's young with his best years ahead of him and he'll definitely have a solid re-sale value. Likelihood = 4 or 5/10 - A possibility if FSG stump up the funds and BR thinks he's worth it.
