Liverpool Transfers: 5 Goalscoring Options Brendan Rodgers Must Consider

2. Llorente Torres, Fernando

Current team: Athletic Bilbao http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3R5lu5BOzs Now here is a talent. Fernando Llorente is one of the most highly rated forwards currently plying his trade on the continent. He may only be third or fourth choice striker for Spain but let's be honest that'd make him first choice striker for most other national sides. He's a brilliant product of Bilbao's equally brilliant academy which continues to churn out top talents.

Would He Fit The Role?

There's no doubting this guy's immense talents. He was top draw against Manchester United in the Europa League last year and that proved he could cut it against Premier League defenders but after the whole Andy Carroll joke, which has made Liverpool a laughing stock recently, I'm not sure if Liverpool fans are ready to see another big striker roll into town - even if it's the best big striker in the world. However, although he's not that quick he is lethal and very good with his feet so it's not like he's a standing target to hit on the head which is why I still think he belongs on BR's potential shopping list. Another reason he might just fit the role at Anfield is the example of Fernando Torres. BR could use this example to show Llorente what the Anfield faithful can do for a Spanish striker. A regular starting role at Anfield could show Vicente del Bosque just what he's missing out on and help Llorente earn that national starting berth he surely craves. But obviously, this whole deal, again, might depend on Luis Suarez shifting out wide which he may or may not be inclined to do. Would he fit? I think so if he's given time to adapt, I think signing him in January will lead people to be critical of him as it's a difficult time to sign for a new club but I think he'd be great once he started his first full season.

What's The Likelihood?

To be honest I don't think it's all that likely but BR should still consider him because he's a top draw talent in the last few months of his contract and this doesn't happen all that often - the fact Huntelaar and Llorente will both be allowed to speak to the representatives of other clubs during this January window is a truly rare thing. The fact he's out of contract in the summer is a big plus point for LFC, who aren't exactly flush for cash, because this means he could join on the cheap - especially if LFC can get into negotiations quickly when the window opens up. This coupled with Manchester City seemingly cooling their interest in the forward gives Kopites everywhere a glimmer of hope. However, there's a big obstacle in the way. And that's Marcelo Bielsa, the Bilbao coach. He says, "Llorente is an important player in this club and we need his presence this season. The club have decided that he follows with us until June, and that is good for the squad." This seemingly ridiculous stance from the coach may stop anyone getting their hands on Llorente until the summer of 2013, that is unless he's saying this to drive up the price - making it seem like a big price is needed to lure Llorente away, when in reality it probably isn't all that big. Likelihood = 4 or 5/10 - Better teams will want him but if the opportunity arises I wouldn't bank on BR being far away from the interest.
