Liverpool Transfers: 5 January Signings To Get Back In Title Race
4. Centre-Back
With injuries also affecting Mamadou Sakho and Sebastian Coates this season, Liverpool could benefit from a new centreback in January. Sakho picked up a hamstring injury on Sunday and is a big doubt for the clash with Hull on New Year's Day while understudy Coates hasn't played a game all season due to a knee injury. That leaves Martin Skrtel (above), Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure as cover at centrehalf and if injury should befall either of that trio, Liverpool will find themselves extremely threadbare at the back. And that could be one reason why Brendan Rodgers is interested in Juventus's Leonardo Bonucci, who has also been linked with Manchester United in the past. Bonucci has become an integral member of the Italian champion's defence this season with the 26-year-old making 13 Serie A appearances, but has been tipped to move to England at the end of the season. However, as Liverpool's defensive crisis deepens, that move could be brought forward in January. Bonucci is an experienced Italy international with 36 senior caps to his name and could help shore up a Reds defence that has shipped 23 goals this season - more than any side currently in the top six.
