4. James Tomkins

With stalwart Jamie Carragher also in the twilight of his long Liverpool career, Brendan Rodgers needs to find a way to replace him and solidify his defence. According to
some reports, West Ham United's James Tomkins is viewed as an ideal replacement. With Sam Allardyce hoping to make Andy Carroll's stay at Upton Park permanent, Brendan Rodgers may be tempted to use the lanky forward as a bargaining chip to land the West Ham defender in a part-exchange deal. A product of the West Ham Youth Academy, Tomkins can play either at centreback or in centre midfield. He is good on the ball, too, which is obviously what possession-loving Rodgers likes. The fact that he can play in midfield might also tempt Rodgers as he still seeks a long term replacement for the ageing and injury prone Gerrard. He might have his work cut out to land his signature though. Tomkins only signed a new four and a half year deal at Upton Park this January, and he might not want to leave a side where he is getting regular first team football at the moment.
