Liverpool Transfers: 5 Reasons Rodgers Should Sign Samuel Eto'o
5. He Can Still Find The Net
Thanks to Chelsea's worrying faith in Fernando Torres, Eto'o was restricted to just 21 appearances for Chelsea last year, and yet he managed to weigh in with 9 goals - almost a goal every other game, the fabled score ratio for "proper" top level strikers. Yes, his shooting accuracy was only 59%, but he still had 59 shots (including blocked ones) in those 21 games, and that's despite completing only 4 of the games he played in, and amassing only 1298 minutes on the pitch. At a more granular level that means he attempted a shot once every 22 minutes, an impressive rate considering Luis Suarez's ratio came in at just over once every 16 minutes, and somewhat disproves the idea that the striker wasn't up to the job. The return of 9 goals is also more than adequate for what Liverpool would expect from the striker: he will not be brought in as the marquee signing, and with Rickie Lambert likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order, the idea of a fourth choice striker (assuming Rodgers gets his big name first choice to play with Sturridge) who could chip in with as many goals as a goal-scoring midfielder is a no-brainer.
