Louis van Gaal Man Utd Press Conference - 5 Things We Learned
5. Paul Scholes & Phil Neville Will Keep Backroom Positions
Following the sacking of David Moyes back in April, Ryan Giggs was appointed his successor on a caretaker basis and persuaded the 'class of 92' to join him as members of his backroom staff, with Phil Neville - who was already an assistant to Moyes - being joined by Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes. The sight of the four United legends overseeing proceedings during the last month of Premier League fixtures reassured fans who had suffered through a dire season under Moyes, and supporters will be glad to hear that Louis van Gaal intends to retain their services. In his press conference, he confirmed Butt would be staying on at the club, and said of Scholes and Neville:
"Paul Scholes, we shall find a role for him, and also Phil Neville I believe. That's what's we want but we have to look....it's not an easy job and we have to speak about that personally. We'll have to wait and see."
With Giggs also staying on, after being appointed as van Gaal's assistant manager earlier this summer, fans will be hoping one of United's greatest batch of players can help inspire the Dutchman back to the glory days.
