Luis Suarez: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

2. Alleged Racism

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlbNZxDh3xs I write "alleged" racism with immense trepidation. I know some will see the Suárez/Evra racism case in a more Black and White perspective (genuinely no pun intended) and therefore some will see that in their eyes Suárez is fully guilty. But we all know that court verdicts of all types have been wrong before and these potentially wrongful verdicts can give a man or a woman a reputation that they do not deserve and it can change their lives forever. And often we find that these verdicts are incorrect and then we try to change the past. The best example I can give you on this matter is the Hillsborough case. Too long were Liverpool Football Club supporters stricken with the disgusting label of violent, drunken and animalistic fans when it is now clear that the Reds fans had nothing to do with the tragedy which occurred at the Leppings Lane End. So, you see my point? I honestly do not believe that Suárez is guilty of being racist - the FA inquiry actually came to the same conclusion but he is now tarnished with the brush of racism and that is a very difficult stain to erase. It's clear he'll always be remembered for this because every time, since the incident, Liverpool have come to play Manchester United it has been the main focus for discussion by fans, pundits and journalists. I won't use this article as a vehicle for my opinion on this matter but just because the FA report said he had been racist once, it does not mean he is racist. It would be a pity if this was how this talented player was to be remembered in a decade's time.
