3. Fouls, Dives And Bad Behaviour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlNnN-Eds3Q Unfortunately it seems that most of the greatest footballing talents in this world, at some point, feel the need to dive. Ronaldo, Drogba, Torres, Busquets, Bale and now Suárez. These are or have been world class players who have all dived to gain the upper hand. I believe the concept of diving is born from an uncontrollable addiction to winning and some see it as a means to gain victory. Suárez definitely fits into that hypothesis. He needs to win and winning is therefore his justification for these bad examples of behaviour. This season I have actually been proud of Suárez as he has endeavoured to turn his public persona around - much like Ronaldo has done. Since BR's little dig at Luis' unacceptable diving, he has aimed to stop diving completely and some would argue - including myself - that he has actually cost himself penalties and free kicks by staying up since he decided to try to stay up more. However, once a diver, always a diver, right? Most people follow this assumption and sadly that is what he will be remembered for in the eyes of some opposition supporters. Other fans simply loathe his fiery temper which seems to force him into arguing every decision over with the linesman or referee. Some loathe him for his tricky fouls (see Distin/Mirallas from this season's Goodison Park Derby). I fear no matter what he does in the future to change his image, these characteristics will stick with him like mud and thus, unfortunately, he will be remembered as the talented South American with a bad attitude.
