Man City: 5 Reasons Mancini Has Failed This Season

4. The Dip In Form Of Their Midfield

When David Silva signed from La Liga side Valencia in 2010, he quickly became one of Manchester City's key players out on the wing. He developed a good partnership with Sergio Aguero and his fellow attacking players and contributed with eight goals from the flanks. This season however has been a different story. In 25 appearances so far he has only managed three strikes and his dip in form coincided with City exiting the Champions League - a competition of which he failed to open his goal-scoring account. Fellow attacking midfielder Samir Nasri is also enduring a fairly lacklustre season as well, and has only managed three goals himself, not a fantastic return from a man who once managed fifteen strikes for Arsenal in the 2010/11 season. Another set-back to Man City's midfield has been the prolonged absence of Yaya Toure through his involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations. It is evident that City have missed their midfield general and they have at times looked frail without the steel he adds rampaging forward from the centre of the park. Also considering the poor form of Gareth Barry and James Milner of late, it is easy to see where Roberto Mancini's men have gone wrong in the midfield department.
