Man City: 5 Reasons Pellegrini Won't Win The Quadruple

Manuel Pellegrini has made quite an impression at Manchester City since replacing Roberto Mancini in the summer. One of the things he has brought to the Etihad Stadium is confident ruthlessness, with 103 goals so far being smashed in this season in all competitions. That confidence has this week transferred to Pellegrini's dealings with the media. Both himself and captain Vincent Kompany have been quoted as talking up the chances of an unprecedented quadruple trophy haul. Pellegrini wants to mark his debut season with the Everest-esque feat, while Kompany believes it will be a matter of time before it happens. Looking at the statistics of the season so far, there is reason to be optimistic. At home to Cardiff they became the fastest team in Premier League history to reach 100 goals for the season. Considering it is still only January, that is a remarkable achievement. Eleven out of eleven home league wins so far, an average of 3.8 goals scored in those games, plus 11 goals in their last two home cup games are unheard of numbers. It would be very easy to get carried away with that if you were a City player, manager, or fan. Realistically, just matching Manchester United's 1999 treble would be a stunning achievement. There is a reason why that is the closest any English side has got to a quadruple, but here are five reasons why Man City should dampen down their expectations for this season.
