Just when you thought Manchester City’s summer transfer business had concluded with the signing of Juventus’ Joao Cancelo, now comes news that The Citizens have moved to snap up another defender.

As per The Mirror, City have agreed an £11 million deal to sign Pedro Porro from sister club Girona. The 19-year-old Spain U21 international will be immediately loaned out to La Liga side Rayo Valladolid.

Porro had spent the past two seasons at Girona following a move from Rayo Vallecano in 2017 – a move which at the time saw Girona fend off competition from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich for the player.

Earlier in this transfer window, the young right-back had been linked with a move to Watford and Sevilla.

The Mirror suggests that part of the reason for City making the move for Porro now is so that the transfer fee will help Girona to bring in new signings in their quest for promotion after being relegated from La Liga last season.

This move sees Pedro Porro become Pep Guardiola’s fifth signing of the transfer window after midfielder Rodri arrived from Atletico Madrid, left-back Angelina returned to the club from PSV Eindhoven, goalkeeper Zack Steffen signed from Columbus Crew, and the aforementioned purchase of Portuguese right-back Cancelo.
