Man City Transfers: 10 Players Screwed By Citizens’ Ludicrous Transfer Policies

9. Jo

Jo is one of the first examples of Manchester City's lavish transfer spending and became the club's then-record purchase when he joined from CSKA Moscow in a £19 million deal in 2008. After impressing in Russia by scoring 30 goals in 52 appearances, the Citizens thought he was worth breaking the bank for. They were wrong. The Brazilian spent a highly-forgettable three-year spell at Eastlands, scoring only one league goal for his new club. When it became clear things weren't working out, City loaned him out to Everton for the second half of the 2008-09 season and the entirety of the 2009-10 campaign. However, midway through his second stint at Goodison Park, he was suspended for breeching his contract after returning to Brazil over the Christmas period without the Toffee's consent. He was returned to City but was loaned to Galatasaray on the very same day. In 2011 he went back to South America after being sold to Brazilian side Internacional. Jo is further proof that shock-and-awe spending tactics don't always work out, and after breaking their club transfer record on the striker, City - and Jo - probably wish they hadn't bothered.
