5. Raphael Varane
With a major overhaul of the squad planned for this summer that is set to see the likes of Maicon and Joleon Lescott leave, Man City have
reportedly entered the market for Real Madrid's Raphael Varane. The talented 20-year old is viewed as one of the best young centrebacks in Europe and has been most impressive under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid in recent times. He could be brought in to give some healthy competition to youngster Matija NastasiĀ or even to replace him and partner Vincent Kompany at the heart of defence. The defender would already have a "French connection" at the Etihad in Samir Nasri and could help beef up City's already mean defence ahead of next season. His performances in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg for Real as they took on Barcelona back in February were most impressive and he demonstrated in that game he is capable of scoring from the back as he popped up with a headed equaliser.
