To guarantee the title regardless of Arsenal's result against Aston Villa, they had to beat Gunner's hated rivals Tottenham at Old Trafford. Spurs did United no favours, however, taking the lead with a Les Ferdinand goal that was cancelled out by David Beckham just before half time. Andy Cole then scored a delicious lob three minutes into the second half to give United the advantage, as Arsenal took the lead in their fixture thanks to Nigerian striker Kanu. The minutes then ticked down in nailbiting fashion for United fans, as their team managed to hang on to their result and ensure the Premier League trophy's return to Manchester.
