Man Utd: 10 Key Reasons Why David Moyes Was Sacked
7...United's League Position
United have not finished any lower than third place since the Premier League began. Finishing seventh would represent there worst league position for 24 years and a significant backward step in the club's development. Even with maximum points from their last four games United will end the season with their lowest ever Premier League points tally. The club's hierarchy will be abundantly aware that a prolonged period out of the Chamipons League will damage United's reputation and finances. A top four finish next season will be a minimum requirement for the incoming manager.
6...League Defeats At Old Trafford This Season
Old Trafford was a fortress under Ferguson. Most teams were beaten in the tunnel before even stepping onto the pitch, but under Moyes the castle well and truly crumbled. United suffered six crushing league defeats and any momentum being gathered was extinguished almost as soon as it began. In contrast, the Reds had one of the best away records in the league during the Scot's time in charge. Unfortunately, Moyes could never get it quite right under the pressure of the home fan's watchful gaze, leading to supporter's unrest and the now infamous plane protest.
5...Games In Which Utd Conceded 3 Goals Or More
Moyes' reputation as a coach was built upon his ability to create defensively solid teams, a tactic at odds with Utd's philosophy of free flowing attacking football. However, Moyes could not even deliver on his strengths as United suffered heavy defeats on numerous occasions. Their biggest losses came against their closest rivals, Liverpool and Man City, and highlighted the frailties that existed within the United defence. Against Bayern Munich, Moyes' tactics worked brilliantly for 50 minutes of the second leg, only to be torn apart again by his side conceding three second half goals. Ironically, Moyes last game as United boss came against former club Everton. With the exception of De Gea it was difficult to see where any of United's back line would earn a place in the Toffee's first choice team.
