Man Utd 3-2 Fulham: 5 Things We Learnt

4. Is Old Trafford Always This Empty?

Okay, not THAT empty. But it was still a surprise to see so many fans dressed as red chairs this afternoon. We've come to expect it of Manchester City at the Etihad, but United have been consistent over the years with packing out every side of Old Trafford, whoever they're facing. To see so many empty seats was disheartening for the loyal Reds fan, but its roots have been long forming. Between the recession, high ticket prices and mounting dissatisfaction with the Glazer family ownership, people just aren't coming to as many games as they used to. That's not to say that this is anything to scream at fairies about just yet; the attendances will come for the big games and, given the type of crowd United can attract, more wins will bring in more spectators. It has to hurt the ego a little bit, though. It's amazing what one title loss can do when the champions trophy now resides across the City.
