4. David Bellion

David Bellion's arrival at Old Trafford in 2003 was marred in controversy from the outset. Ferguson was then accused of "tapping up" the Frenchman while he was still under contract at Sunderland and an out of court settlement of £2 million was ultimately reached with the Black Cats. Bellion didn't make up for all the hassle it took to sign him, either, and in the end Ferguson must have wished he hadn't bothered. A measly four goals in 24 appearances was the Frenchman's grand total at the club, making him by far one of the worst signings Ferguson has ever made. He was loaned out to Nice in 2006, and his stay there was made permanent when it became obvious he no longer had a future at Old Trafford. Having struggled to crack United's starting XI, Bellion's form and confidence has suffered ever since. Upon his arrival at Nice, he only lasted a year and was sold to Bordeaux, who have since loaned him straight back again. Ouch.
