Man Utd Transfer News: Alexander Buttner Undergoes Medical

23-year-old Vitesse Arnhem left back Alexander Buttner to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

According to the Mail Online, 23-year-old left back Alexander Buttner underwent a medical at Manchester United today as he completes his summer move from Vitesse Arnhem. The Dutch player reportedly flew to England on Sunday to undergo the formalities of the switch after agreeing a five-year contract at Old Trafford. The deal seems to have come out of nowhere as Manchester United had been chasing Everton€™s Leighton Baines as a suitable addition to relieve the strain on the aging Patrice Evra. Buttner spoke of his joy at signing for Manchester United when he spoke to the Dutch media earlier this week:

"This is truly a dream come true. It all went very quickly and I am of course very happy."
Buttner had originally been linked with a move to Premier League newcomers Southampton but after the clubs couldn€™t agree on a price, the deal fell through. The defender made 107 appearances for the Dutch club and had been named in Holland's provisional squad for Euro 2012 but was left out of the final squad. At the age of 23, Buttner looks to have been chosen over Baines, likely as Sir Alex Ferguson could secure his signature on a cheaper deal.
