Man Utd Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo £80 Million Interest Renewed?

Manchester Evening News. United are aware of a potential backlash from fans off the back of a relatively underwhelming summer that could see them lose Wayne Rooney to Chelsea and also miss out on top transfer target Cesc Fabregas. The return then of one of the club's prodigal sons could help quell growing concerns from supporters and get fans back onside as new manager David Moyes prepares for his first season in charge of the club following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. Moyes does not want to miss out on Ronaldo, who rivals Lionel Messi as the best player in world football, especially as his competitors are making significant strides in this summer's transfer market. Manchester City have spent £90 million on new recruits while Arsenal could seriously improve their strike force by signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool. And that's not taking into account Chelsea's potential dominion over English football should they add Rooney to a strike force that also includes new signing Andre Schurrle. United's hopes of bringing Ronaldo - who spent six seasons at Old Trafford between 2003-09 - back for a second spell could rest on whether or not Real Madrid are successful in their pursuits of Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale. Should the Welshman move to the Bernabeu, the Red Devils may find it easier to negotiate a deal for Ronaldo. Today, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed the club are in talks over a new deal with Bale, but warned:

€œTalks are ongoing, but that doesn€™t mean there is an agreement.€
United drew in their fourth pre-season game today, as a late Wilfried Zaha strike rescued a 2-2 stalemate with Cerezo Osaka.
