Man Utd Transfer News: Luka Modric Interest Renewed

Man United renew their interest in Spurs' midfielder Luka Modric.

Caught Offside. Though Sir Alex Ferguson did set his sights on the Croatian international earlier on during the transfer window, this waned once it was made clear that Real Madrid were interested in the 26 year old midfielder. However, he appears to have re-ignited a move to scoop the player up, after Real Madrid's bids to acquire him have proven unsuccessful. Modric is reportedly keen to leave White Hart Lane, and so Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas will likely make an asking price that reflects this. Ferguson's previous failure to acquire Brazilian teenager Lucas Moura will serve as a reminder that he will need to pony up the cash for Modric and exceed Real Madrid's bid, said to be in the region of £25m. The real question will be whether Tottenham's chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to sell to a rival premiership side. Following disappointments in both the Premier League and the Champions League last season, Ferguson will be looking to retain past glories, particularly by enhancing his midfield prospects. The hope is that Modric can galvanise the flagging side, and help keep some of the side's disappointing acquisitions on their toes.
