Man Utd Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski To Join Bayern Munich Over Reds

Daily Mail. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since December last year but the Polish international has since expressed his desire to play for Champions League winners Bayern Munich instead. Dortmund were at one point taking a hard stance on this issue, declaring the 24-year-old would not be sold to their Bundesliga rivals having already sold them Mario Gotze. United, as well as Chelsea, who were also interested, were hoping to take advantage of this situation but now it appears both will miss out after Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the deadly striker will play for Bayern from next year. "I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season," Klopp told Welt am Sonntag.

"Now the only question is how to shape the time until then. "That is our concern and it is our commitment to our fans and members to ensure that we will have a more competitive team in the upcoming season. "Up to a certain point we were with Robert's desire for change and were ready to talk. But nothing happened so we had to eventually say: ' now no longer works for us. "And now we want to prove that, with a quality player like Robert, we can be successful in the coming year. Our results in the coming season is what we're all about. I know that Robert and I see it the same way."
Lewandowski enjoyed a fantastic campaign last season, scoring 24 Bundesliga goals along with 10 in Europe as he helped fire Dortmund to the final of the Champions League, where they were defeated by Bayern. He also netted four times in one game against Real Madrid in the first leg of the semi-finals and it was performances such as these that have made him such a coveted asset this summer. But he will reject overtures from United and Chelsea and join Bayern when his contract expires in 2014, apparently on a free.
