Man Utd Transfer News: Wayne Rooney To Submit Transfer Request?
Mirror. The unsettled 27-year-old has dominated this summer's gossip columns and many of his team-mates now reportedly expect him to make his desire to leave the club official in the coming days. Rooney has already been the subject of failed bids from Arsenal and Chelsea and, having spent a successful nine years at Old Trafford, it could be that his time is coming to an end at United. The ex-Everton star wants a move to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, however, the Premier League champions have ruled out selling to a title competitor and will ideally look to sell him abroad. By submitting an official transfer request, Rooney would be forgoing any money that is owed to him on the remaining two years oh his contract. It would however give the Blues added impetus to up their bid for the forward. Chelsea are expected to table a second, improved offer of £30 million before the transfer window slams shut on September 2, while an insider revealed Rooney's desire to leave has nothing to do with new United boss David Moyes. The pair endured a strained relationship toward the end of Rooney's time at Goodison Park, stemming from the player's acrimonious departure from Everton in 2004. But the source stated:
It has nothing to do with David Moyes. He simply feels that he needs a new challenge. The talk around the club has been that he will officially ask for a transfer in the next week.
