Man Utd Transfer News: Wesley Sneijder To Old Trafford?

Manchester United boss Sir. Alex Ferguson is reportedly lining up an ambitious late move for Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to a report at Caught Offside. After securing the blockbuster signing this week of Arsenal forward Robin Van Persie, Fergie is now reportedly set to tempt his fellow Dutch international superstar for a move to Old Trafford. United's offer will apparently include Portguese winger Nani going in the opposite direction in the hopes that Inter Milan boss Andrea Stramaccioni would be willing to negotiate a player swap/transfer fee deal. Fergie has been chasing the 28-year-old playmaker for the past 18 months, perhaps believing he could be the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes. With reports that the San Siro giants are looking more towards the future and implementing plans for a more youthful squad, United's best chance of securing the former Ajax and Real Madrid star's signature could be this month before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st. Milan have experienced two extremely lean years following the treble triumph of the 2009/10 season under Jose Mourinho. The club finished just sixth last term and they aren't the dominant force in Italy or across Europe that they were then and the revolution at Old Trafford and the challenge to top Manchester City to the title could be tempting for Sneijder to consider a move away from the Nerazzurri. 25-year-old Nani meanwhile has still yet to agree an extension on his contract and has become subject of heavy speculation linking him with a move to Zenit St. Petersburg. Nani faces stiff competition to break into the United first team eleven next season with competition for places rife and the likes of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, new signing Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck to contend with.
