Is time up for Danny Welbeck? There has been a lot of speculation in the past week that Welbeck wants out of Manchester United, reportedly unhappy at being shunted onto the wing instead of playing in his favoured role as a striker. But as a striker he isn't Manchester United quality. 134 total appearances for the club since 2008 have yielded just 29 goals and although his tally of ten for the current campaign is a marked improvement on his two strikes last term, it is still not the hallmark of a world class forward. It is hardly a prolific goals return. The England star has only netted 19 times in the league since becoming a United regular in 2011. The numbers aren't good. Perhaps then it is time to remould United's front line and look at a Welbeck-free future? The champions are reportedly looking into signing goal-machine Edinson Cavani of Paris Saint-Germain, and with Wayne Rooney commited to a new, long-term contract and Robin van Persie to come back into the fold, supposedly revived under compatriot Louis van Gaal, there might no longer be a place for the likable Mancunian under the new regime.
