After 10 disastrous months, outgoing Premier League champions Manchester United have elected to sack manager David Moyes. Moyes oversaw United's worst home record since 1978, while presiding over a run of form that will see the club miss out on Champions League football for the first time since 1995. The 50-year-old achieved a meagre 27 wins from 51 matches, leaving the Red Devils seventh and destined to miss out on European football altogether for the first time since 1990. Succeeding the inimitable Sir Alex Ferguson was always going to be a tall order for the Scot, but even the most pessimistic of supporters would not have envisaged that sort of downturn. The hunt is now on for Moyes's replacement, with bookmakers placing Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal as the early favourite ahead of a summer of change at Old Trafford. The season's end will certainly see fresh faces recruited to help revive the Reds, while speculation of an exodus has surfaced, with captain Nemanja Vidic definitely leaving and more to follow.
