Strootman was strongly linked last year, including in the winter
by The Sun, due to the similar attributes he shares with arguably the greatest ever captain to put on the red jersey, Roy Keane. He is a strong Dutch midfielder with a no-nonsense attitude, young and hungry and with a lot of skill. The thought of this player coming to the red side of Manchester and adapting quickly to the English game, alongside Michael Carrick would be incredibly exciting for United fans and would see the side possess a central midfield partnership that might remind us of the Scholes/Keane partnership of old.
How likely is the transfer? 65% Plans to add the fierce Dutchman to the United camp may well hinge on Ferguson's plans for Phil Jones and whether or not he sees the former Blackburn-man as a tough, hard-working central midfielder or whether he sees the England international as a centre-back. If it's the latter, United will probably need another defensive midfielder, and Strootman would fit the bill.
