Though a £54 million bid has already been rejected by Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho may still be willing to meet Los Blancos' hefty asking price in order to bring Alvaro Morata to Old Trafford.

Real are thought to be asking for around £78million for the Spanish International, having already taken advantage of a buy-back clause for the former Academy prospect having originally offloaded him to Juventus in 2014.

Zinedine Zidane has since relied upon the former Serie A winner to provide goals underneath chief threat Cristiano Ronaldo. He supplied 20 across all competitions this season, and has proved a consistent threat at club and international level since breaking into Real's first team in 2010.

An ideal solution for 'The Special One' then, who will need the right mix of depth, quality and dynamism if United are to mount a greater domestic challenge alongside their Champions League responsibilities.

However, opposition to the move could emerge should further movements take place over the summer. Morata's position at Real could be all the more vital if one of his teammates elects to make a shocking switch...
