Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings To Ensure Premier League Glory

2. Mehdi Benatia

Whilst Utd fans can dream of a Cristiano Ronaldo homecoming, his signing would be one that, whilst a great purchase, would be one that is not as much as a priority as certain other areas of the pitch. The problem at the back for Manchester United is the big pink elephant in the room that nobody can ignore. Hell, even Louis Van Gaal has gone on record several times to say how the club badly needs a centre-back in the summer. Mehdi Benatia is a centre-half that Utd were in for last summer and ended up missing out on to the all-powerful Bayern Munich. As well as the Red Devils, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City and Chelsea were also reportedly in the hunt. It would be a huge shock if Benatia was to move on from the Allianz Arena after just one season, but if there was any chance of this happening then Utd should be moving heaven and earth to break the bank and snap up the Moroccan centre-half. In the last three seasons - one at Udinese, one at Roma, one at Bayern €“ Benatia has arguably been the best defender in Europe, up there with the likes of Mats Hummels, Diego Godin and Sergio Ramos. A master reader of the game, Benatia has a brilliant balance of both power and technique as well as being tough to beat in the air. So basically, he€™s what Utd have been crying out for since Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand€™s pairing started to decline. Whether he would be available is another question, but for what Utd need he€™s arguably a better shout than Mats Hummels or anyone else right now.
