Man Utd Transfers: 11 Signings Ole Solskjaer Must Make Immediately
4. Raphael Varane - Real Madrid
Manchester United famously tried to sign Raphael Varane several years ago before the French defender ultimately decided to head to Real Madrid. Varane may have chosen to move to the Bernabeu back in 2011, but now would be a perfect time to finally try once more to get the classy centre-back at Old Trafford.
Still only 26, Varane has already amassed an honours list that would be the envy of any footballer. Of course, there was last year’s World Cup win with France, and then there’s a club career that has seen Varane win the Champions League four times in addition to the other countless trophies and titles the Frenchman has won during his time in Madrid.
Since last summer, there have been rumblings that Varane may be looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. Factor in Real Madrid’s desperation to sign Paul Pogba this summer – reportedly going as far as offering Gareth Bale and Isco as part of any deal – and United should at least be asking the question of whether Los Blancos would be willing to let Varane leave the club if it meant getting Pogba in return.
