Man Utd Transfers: 5 Deals That Definitely Won’t Happen

5. Wesley Sneijder

Sneijder Wesley Sneijder was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in 2011 and has been ever since. It was widely expected that the Red Devils would sign the Dutch midfielder two years ago, but Ferguson soon cooled his interest in the creative playmaker after the midfielder effectively ruled himself out of a move by demanding £12 million-per-year. Furthermore, he fitted outside the club's policy of not spending huge transfer fees on players who are aged 26 and above. United did sign forward Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham when he was 27, admittedly, but chief executive David Gill said at the time that would be "the last of its kind" at Old Trafford".* Sneijder has been linked with a move to Man United yet again this month.** The Dutchman has been banished by current club Inter Milan after refusing to accept a pay-cut, and he has only made 6 appearances for the Italians this season as a result. He will certainly be leaving Inter in January, but not for Old Trafford. If United were going to sign him, it would have been when he was 26, not 28. He has absolutely zero re-sale potential and the petulance he has shown in refusing to agree to a wage-cut makes him an unattractive option. Source(s): * The Guardian, ** The Sun
