Man Utd Transfers: 5 Flops Who Must Be Ditched In January

5. Patrice Evra

I'm quite well aware that there will be many a Manchester United supporter upset to see Patrice Evra on a list like this. A fan favourite, the Frenchman has been a loyal servant to the Reds and, in his seven year stay at the club, has acted as vice captain and has stood in as captain when required. But let's not kid ourselves. Evra has been on the slide since 2010. 33 at the end of the season, the left-back has lost that crucial yard of pace, making him fair game for almost any player playing on the wing for the opposition. And is it really a coincidence that United have a poorer defensive record than any side currently in the top seven of the table? Or is it a coincidence that Moyes tried over the summer to sign not one, but two new left-backs in Leighton Baines and Real Madrid's Fabio Coentrao? Evra suggested recently that he will not be signing a contract extension at Old Trafford, meaning he will leave the club in the summer when his current deal expires. It makes sense, in that case, for Moyes to sell him on in January, probably back to France, while he can still command a transfer fee.
