Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players Moyes Could Spend £200 Million On
5. Leighton Baines
With a warchest to spend on new players over the next 18 months, Moyes has put together a list of targets that includes a left-back, centre-back, two central midfielders and a striker. The list makes sense given the weaknesses in each of those key areas and the necessity to replace ageing individuals who can no longer cut it at the top. At left-back, veteran Patrice Evra is still going strong, having played in all but one of United's 20 Premier League games this season. There is clearly a reliance on the 32-year-old, which is dangerous given that he isn't going to be around for too much longer, with a move back to Monaco touted. Understudy Alexander Büttner looked decent against Swansea but needs to prove himself more before he can seriously be considered the heir apparent to Evra, and Moyes needs to bring in a top quality fullback. The obvious option is Leighton Baines of Everton and while some prefer Southampton's Luke Shaw, United need someone with proven experience to steady the ship at the back. The Red Devils kept just one clean sheet in their last six at Old Trafford and the signing of Baines would provide some much-needed composure at fullback. United hope to finally land Baines for £20 million having failed in previous attempts to sign the England international.
