Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players Moyes Could Spend £200 Million On
4. Andrea Ranocchia
As well as a new left-back, United also need to invest in a centre-back over the next 18 months with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic clearly on their last legs. Vidic has been blighted by injury over the past two seasons with lack of fitness and form leading to only sporadic appearances while Ferdinand's knee injury sustained against Swansea was just the latest in a series of niggles. Understudy Phil Jones meanwhile also has a knee injury while the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling cannot be described as world class centre-backs capable of replacing Vidic and Ferdinand long-term. The bedrock of United's defence must not be built around Evans and Smalling and, as with Evra at left-back, a world class acquisition is needed to fill the void. One player who does fit the bill is Inter Milan's Andrea Ranocchia. The 25-year-old put a series of top clubs on alert recently when news emerged that he could be seeking a move away from the San Siro after growing disillusioned with life under Walter Mazzarri. Rannochia is currently stalling over a new contract with Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs all interested, and United would do well to bring in some fresh blood at the back over the next couple of windows. A bid of around £15 million could be enough to secure the Italian's services.
