What a terrible few years it's been for Luke Shaw. When he signed for Manchester United back in 2014, Shaw was the most expensive teenager in the world and set for a sterling career with one of the world's biggest clubs. Experts predicted he'd go on to become an England regular and write his name into the Old Trafford history books.

Instead, the word "flop" barely even begins to do him justice. Injuries have curtailed Shaw's progress, but even when he's been fit, he's looked a far cry from the tantalising teenage prodigy who once drew comparisons to Gareth Bale. The 18-year-old Shaw who arrived at Carrington had the world at his feet, but the former Southampton man has since been criticised by several managers and struggled to make any impact at Old Trafford.

José Mourinho, in particular, has singled Shaw out for criticism on multiple occasions and it looks doubtful that the Portuguese will be changing his mind anytime soon. As much as Shaw might want to make it work, he'd probably be much better off cutting his losses and looking for first team football elsewhere. Maybe a new environment is just what he needs to revitalise his career.
