Man Utd Transfers: 5 Replacements For Rio Ferdinand
2. Ezequiel Garay
Ezequiel Garay is another long-term target of the club, and has been linked with a move to Manchester United in each of the last four transfer windows, with both Sir Alex Ferguson and successor David Moyes big admirers of the Argentine. Seen as the long-term replacement for Rio Ferdinand by some observers, the 27-year-old recently indicated he is unsure if he will stay at current club Benfica beyond this summer. Garay has helped his side to their 33rd league title this season and has also been an integral figure in their Europa League run, which has seen them reach this month's final. However, when asked where he will be playing his football next season, the defender admitted: "I don't know, we'll see". Some reports suggest we can snap up the centre-half for as little as £8 million, which is a complete steal, considering he has a wealth of big game experience having also played for Real Madrid. Garay excelled in Benfica's Europa League win over Spurs back in March, and showed calmness and composure on the ball, drawing comparisons to a Rio Ferdinand in his prime. Will he replace the Manchester United legend? That remains to be seen.
