4. Not Bidding For Thiago Alcantara
United were strongly linked with Barcelona's Thiago Alcantara earlier this summer and were even though to have agreed a
£17 million deal with his club for the midfielder to join on a five-year contract. His move to Old Trafford was considered imminent - that was until he signed for Bayern Munich instead. And it has since transpired United
didn't even put a bid in. The youngster joined the German giants for
£21.6 million and it is astonishing that Moyes didn't try to land him for that amount. Considered one of the finest young talents in the game, Alcantara's original release clause was
£77 million, but because he didn't play a set amount of games for Barcelona the season prior, he was allowed to leave for a fraction of that amount. Which makes it all the more unforgivable that Moyes didn't enter the race at all. United have been crying out for a new midfielder all summer, following the retirement of Paul Scholes, and Thiago would have been the ideal solution to their problems in those regards.
