Man Utd Transfers: 5 Shocking Failures Moyes Made In Transfer Window

1. Paying Over The Odds For Fellaini

The only thing David Moyes did right this summer was signing Marouane Fellaini but in the end he still managed to make a botched job of things by paying way over the odds for the midfielder. On August 19, Moyes made a £28 million bid for Leighton Baines AND Marouane Fellaini and yesterday paid £27.5 million for just Fellaini. You don't have to be a maths expert to work out that one simply does not add up. Talk about panic buying. There's no questioning Fellaini's ability, and he will doubtlessly improve United by lending them an imposing physical presence in the middle of the park and a persistent danger from set-pieces. But Moyes could have signed him for a LOT less. Why, for example, did United not activate the Belgian's £23.5 million release clause in July when they had the chance? If they were seriously interested in the player, surely that would have made better business sense. But, of course, they were holding out for better options at the time, like Fabregas, or De Rossi, or Ander Herrera, and in the end pressed the big red button on Fellaini. Did David Moyes fail in the transfer window this summer? Who should he have signed? Let us know in the comment section, below.
