Man Utd Transfers: 5 Signings David Moyes Has To Make In January

5. Leighton Baines

Following last season's keeping of their worst defensive record in 11 years, Manchester United's back four have once again had their deficiencies highlighted this term. The champions have only kept one clean sheet in seven matches, with their last shutout coming against lowly Crystal Palace almost a month ago. Little wonder then that David Moyes tried so desperately to sign Everton's Leighton Baines over the summer, a player who has excelled for the Toffee's so far this season, helping them maintain the Premier League's last remaining undefeated streak until recently. Moyes simply must try again to sign the England left-back in January, because there is simply no better ready-made replacement for the ageing Patrice Evra currently playing in the Premier League. Had the Reds landed Baines over the summer, it's difficult to envisage them labouring in quite the same manner they are currently. The defender scores goals, contributes to the attack and has been one of the best players in his position for years. Baines could be one of the final pieces of the puzzle for this United side.
