Man Utd Transfers: 5 Signings To Ensure Continued Success Under David Moyes

5. Phil Jagielka

Perhaps not everyone's first choice when it comes to buying in a new centre-half but hear me out. With Rio Ferdinand turning 35 in November and Nemanja Vidic prone to enduring lengthy spells in the treatment room with injury, it is common sense that Moyes brings in a new centre back and who better than a player he knows inside out and has worked extensively with over the last 6 years? With Jagielka, Moyes knows what he's buying into and it has been reported that he wants to bring the 30-year old with him when he starts at Old Trafford in July. The relatively inexperienced trio of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones have had to hold the back line for United at times this season due to injuries sustained to Ferdinand and Vidic, and Jagielka could help bring some consistency and experience to the back four should the Reds endure the type of defensive injury crisis that has so frequently undermined their seasons in the past. He'd also only cost about £10 million which makes him a lot cheaper than most centre backs currently on the market today.
